Banswara is a division in the southernmost part of Rajasthan state in India. It has an area of 5,037 km² (1,945 sq mi) which is 1.47% of Rajasthan state. Banswara City is the district headquarters. The district is named after the erstwhile princely state of Banswara.
It is bounded by Udaipur district in the north, Pratapgarh district in the northeast, Madhya Pradesh state in the east and southeast, Gujarat state in the southwest, and Dungarpur district in the west.

The region is mainly inhabited by tribals, mainly Bhils. Banswara and Dungarpur are collectively known as Vagad and the local language of both the places is Vagadi. The district is located in the Mahi River basin.
