Northern California: This includes the state’s most northern counties, such as Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Sonoma. It is characterized by rugged coastlines, dense forests, mountains, volcanoes, and lakes.
It is home to the Redwood National and State Parks, Lake Tahoe, Mount Shasta, and Napa Valley.
Central Valley: This is a large valley that runs through the center of the state, bounded by the Sierra Nevada on the east and the Coast Mountains on the west.
It is one of the world’s most productive agricultural regions, producing crops such as almonds, grapes, oranges, and rice. It is also home to the state capital, Sacramento, and Fresno, the largest city in the region.
Central Coast: This includes the coastal counties between San Francisco Bay and Santa Barbara County, such as Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Cruz.
It is characterized by a mild climate, beautiful beaches, rolling hills, and historic towns. It’s home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Hearst Castle, Big Sur, and Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Bay Area: This includes the nine counties that surround San Francisco Bay, namely Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo.
It is also one of the most populous and culturally diverse regions of the state, known for its innovation, technology, education, and entertainment. It is the home of San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Berkeley, Stanford University, and Silicon Valley.
Southern California: This includes the southernmost counties in the state, such as Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Ventura. It is characterized by a warm climate, a vast metropolis, a diverse population, and a vibrant culture. It is home to Los Angeles, Hollywood, Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, and Malibu.
