G20 Countries on World Map - Summary
The Group of G20 (G20) includes 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States, plus the European Union. The G20 members represent over 80% of the world’s GDP, 75% of global trade, and 60% of the global population.
The G20 was established in 1999 in response to the Asian financial crisis. It served as a meeting place for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss significant global economic and financial challenges. The G-7, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, started meeting regularly since the mid-1980s at a similar level. Since its inception in 1999, the G-20 has met continuously at the finance minister and central bank governor level. In 2008, G-20 leaders began meeting regularly to tackle the global financial crisis, and in 2009, the G-20 was upgraded to become the leading international economic forum.
