The Rupnagar district is one of the 23 districts of the Punjab state in India, The Rupnagar town is of considerable antiquity.
Later excavations and explorations conducted at Rupnagar show that the first civilized society to settle here were the Harappans, who clearly come to the upper Satluj towards the near of the third millennium B.C. The Rupnagar District was carved out on Ist November 1966 at the re-organization of the Punjab State.
Rupnagar is one of the Indus Valley destinations along the Ghaggar-Hakra beds. There’s an Archaeological Historical center in the city which was opened within the year 1998 for the general public.
The museum exhibits the archeological remains of excavated locations in the city, the first Harappan location in Independent India.
