Sarasvati River Map - Summary
Saraswati River is one of the most enigmatic geographical entities in the Indian Subcontinent. Rig Veda described the river eloquently in many of its hymns, the essence of which was that it was a mighty Himalayan stream with six major tributaries (hence the name Sapta-Saraswati), and that it used to flow independently into the Arabian Sea. So vast was the river, especially near the confluence with its tributaries, that it used to provide an ocean-like appearance.
Saraswati River is a holy river first mentioned in the Rigveda and later in Vedic and post-Vedic texts. It played a significant role in the Vedic religion. According to sources, the river is distinct from the other historic river, the Indus, and flows from the Himalayas to the Arabian Sea. The Saraswati River’s origin lies in the Aravalli mountain ranges located in Rajasthan and it is believed to have been seen near Badrinath, Uttarakhand.
