The Western Railway Route Map is one of the 19 zones of Indian Railways, with its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Established on November 5, 1951, WR primarily serves the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. It operates a vast network of rail lines connecting major cities and facilitating regional transportation.

Divisions of Western Railway:

  1. Mumbai Central Division: This covers the Mumbai metropolitan area and surrounding regions.
  2. Vadodara Division: Encompasses areas around Vadodara in Gujarat.
  3. Ahmedabad Division: Serves the Ahmedabad region in Gujarat.
  4. Ratlam Division: Covers parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
  5. Rajkot Division: Encompasses the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
  6. Bhavnagar Division: This covers the Bhavnagar region in Gujarat.

WR Major Routes and Connectivity:

  • Mumbai–Ahmedabad Main Line: Connects Mumbai to Ahmedabad, passing through major stations like Surat and Vadodara.
  • Ahmedabad–Delhi Main Line: Extends from Ahmedabad to Delhi, facilitating connectivity between Gujarat and the national capital.
  • Delhi–Jaipur–Ahmedabad Line: Links Delhi to Ahmedabad via Jaipur, enhancing connectivity between these major cities.
  • Udhna–Jalgaon Line: Connects Udhna (near Surat) to Jalgaon in Maharashtra, facilitating east-west connectivity.
  • Gandhidham–Ahmedabad Main Line: Links Gandhidham in Kutch district to Ahmedabad, serving the western region of Gujarat.
  • Viramgam–Okha Line: Connects Viramgam to the port town of Okha, passing through Jamnagar and Dwarka.
  • Surendranagar–Bhavnagar Line: Links Surendranagar to Bhavnagar, serving the Saurashtra region.
  • Jamnagar–Porbandar Line: Connects Jamnagar to the coastal city of Porbandar.
  • Rajkot–Somnath Line: Links Rajkot to the pilgrimage town of Somnath.
  • Gandhidham–Palanpur Section: Connects Gandhidham to Palanpur, facilitating freight movement from Kutch to northern India.
  • Gandhidham–Bhuj Section: Links Gandhidham to Bhuj, serving the Kutch region.
  • Gandhidham–Kandla Port Section: Connects Gandhidham to Kandla Port, a major maritime hub.
  • Gandhidham–Samakhiali Section: Links Gandhidham to Samakhiali, facilitating regional connectivity.
  • Porbandar–Jetalsar Section: Connects Porbandar to Jetalsar, serving the Saurashtra region.
  • Maliya Miyana–Wankaner Section: Links Maliya Miyana to Wankaner, facilitating regional transportation.
