Nainital Map - Summary
The Uttarakhand district of Nainital lies in the Kumaun division. To its north is the Athe lmora district and to its south lies the Udham Singh Nagar district. Champawat district flanks it in the east, and the district of Pauri Gahwal is in the west. It is located approximately in between 78º51′ 11.34″ and 79º58’ 23.06″ east longitude and 28º58’ 31.84″ and 29º36’ 45.19″ north latitude. On the northern side lies the Himalayan ranges, while on the southern side lies the plains, making the resultant climate of the district an enjoyable one.
The total geographical area is 4251 square. km. Geographically, the district is divided into two 2 zones, viz. Hilly and Bhabar.The hilly region in the outer Himalayas is known to geologists as Krol. The highest peak of the district is Baudhansthali, 2623 mts. high near Binayak adjoining Nainital town. The hilly region of the district.T he hilly region of the district used to have big & small lakes. Bhimtal,Sattal, Naukuchiatal, Khurpatal, Nainital, Malwatal, Harishtal, Lokhamtal etc., are known lakes of bigger size.
Nainital is famous for the Naini Lake, where it is believed that Lord Shiva performed his tandava. The Naini peak or the China peak is the
highest in Nainital with a height of 2611mts. Some of the other places of tourist interest are the Mall, now known as the Govind Ballabh Pant Marg.
