Jamnagar is a city and a municipal corporation, located in Jamnagar district, in the Indian state of Gujarat. Jamnagar is the sixth largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat after Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. Jamnagar is famous for being home to the world’s largest oil refinery, the Jamnagar Refinery, and its rich cultural heritage, including the famous Bala Hanuman Temple and Khijadia Bird Sanctuary.
Jamnagar was founded by Jam Rawalji Jadeja in 1540 A.D. as the capital of the Princely State of Nawanagar. Jamnagar, historically known as Nawanagar (the new town), was one of the most important princely states of the Jadeja’s in the region of Saurashtra.
