The United States is a federal republic with a presidential system of government. The country is made up of 50 states, a government district (Washington, D.C.), and several territories. The federal government is separated into three branches: the administrative, executive, and judicial branches.
Legislative Branch:
The administrative branch is responsible for making laws. It is composed of two houses of Congress: the Senate and the House of Agents. The Senate has 100 members, with each state having two congresspersons, while the House of Representatives has 435 members, with each state having a number of agents based on its populace. Congress is responsible for passing laws, declaring war, and directing interstate and foreign commerce.
Executive Branch:
The executive branch is responsible for enforcing laws. It is headed by the President, who is elected for a four-year term and is restricted to serving two terms. The President is responsible for designating heads of official organizations, arranging arrangements with foreign governments, and serving as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The Vice President serves as the President of the Senate and is following in line for the administration if the President is incapable to fulfill his or her obligations.
Judicial Branch:
The judicial branch is responsible for deciphering laws. It is composed of the Supreme Court and lower government courts. The Preeminent Court is made up of nine justices who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Preeminent Court has the power to pronounce laws unconstitutional, which is known as judicial review.
Political Parties:
The United States has a two-party system ruled by the Democratic and Republican parties. There are also several littler third parties, such as the Libertarian Party and the Green Party. Political parties play a critical part in American politics, with individuals of Congress and the President regularly being affiliated with one of the two major parties.
Elections:
The United States holds elections every two years, with Congressional races held in even-numbered a long time and presidential decisions held every four years. The President is chosen by the Electoral College, which is made up of agents from each state. The winner of the presidential election is the candidate who receives a majority of the appointive votes.
