The Mahendragarh district is one of the 22 districts of the Haryana state in India, and since the formation of the Mahendragarh area in 1948, due to the remaking of the districts and the arrangement of new districts, the geological boundaries of Mahendragarh have been changed many times.
In 1861, ruler Maharaja Narendra Singh of Patiala principality named this fort in Mahendragarh in honor of his son Mohinder Singh. Since the title of the fort, this town came to be known as Mahendragarh and the title of Narnaul Nizam was changed to Mahendragarh Nizam.
The Mahendragarh district is famous for its historical and religious heritage. Narnaul has 14 major historical places in the city, of which three monuments are preserved by the Central Archeology Department and eleven Haryana State Archeology Department.
