Mokama-Munger Highway Approved – Faster Travel and Big Boost for Bihar
A new 4-lane Mokama-Munger section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. This 82.4 km stretch will be built on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) with an outlay of ₹4447.38 crore.
This project is very important for Bihar as it connects Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger directly to Bhagalpur. The whole belt is becoming an industrial hub with a gun factory, locomotive workshop, food processing units, and textile clusters like Bhagalpuri silk. With this new highway, both passenger and goods transport will become easier and faster.
The highway will be fully access-controlled, allowing vehicles to run at an average speed of 80 km/h. Travel time between Mokama and Munger will come down to just 1.5 hours. This means safer, smoother, and quicker connectivity for everyone.
Apart from better transport, the project will generate nearly 14.83 lakh man-days of direct jobs and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect jobs. More economic activities like food packaging, warehousing, and textile industries are also expected to grow in this region after the highway is built.
