It is the sixth longest operational metro network in India with an operational length of 46.4 km (28.8 mi) by January 2023. It aims to provide a fast, reliable, sustainable, and energy-efficient means of transport for the millions of commuters in Mumbai.
At present, only three Metro lines are fully operational: Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar), Line 7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East), and Line 2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar).
Ten more lines are under construction, which would add another 276 km (171 mi) to the network. Some major stations on existing and upcoming lines include Bandra Kurla Complex, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Colaba, Thane, Wadala, and Worli.
Mumbai Metro has crossed a significant milestone of 20 million (2 crores) passengers this week for Metro Line 7 and 2A4.
It offers various facilities and services for passengers, such as smart cards, mobile apps, QR codes, ladies’ coaches, CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, and emergency buttons.
